Migrating to ‘Connected’

Other codecs work, but Brightsign recomends these codecs.

Baking a file:
Sometimes files baked in Adobe After Effects are not accepted — Reason currently unknown.
Re-baking in Handbrake almost always fixes this.
Notes:
Just because a Brightsign can output to 1920×1200 (16:10), dose not meen it can take 16:10 files.
our HD223 will out put to 16:10, but will not read 16:10
All BrightSigns with the model number unding in a ’4’ will accept 4k files. i.e HD224

Creating a Project
I/O ports
A presentation must be in ‘interactive’ to make use of GPIO’s
GPIO ports are set to either input or output – can’t be both
GPIO ports are set to input as default
To set as output:
In BrightAuthor: File > Presentaion properties > I/O
To control an I/O port – Simple Input
Click on an event
Advanced tab
‘Add command’ > ‘Command’ pull down > GPIO
To control an I/O port – Advanced Input / Output
‘Media Libray’ Side window > ‘Events’ tab > GPIO event

Load the TCP plug-in using:
- Presentation properties > Autorun tab > Script plugins > ‘+’
The current working pluggin is in in Permanent Installations/brightsign/plugins/

To Add a TCP command:
- Media item > Advanced tab > Add command > send > Send plugin message > TCP
Use the command Send Plugin message/ TCP and to send the above commands
If you need to repeat the command, Add a pause like this.
Go to Advanced, + Add command
Select ‘Other’ from the drop down list, pause should be the first thing in the new list.
Add the time in milliseconds
Then re do the TCP command
The pause command doesn’t pause any video that is playing so can be used when clip is playing.
Turn on off projectors

UDP commands
I like to create UDP command and access the buttons using port :8008 this requires the Interactive Server to be switched on in setup brightsing setup (second set of credentials in the setup page)
You will also need to add the web page in the presentation properties

Check ‘Custom Device Web Page’ and use the browse button to locate the file

Add the commands using the UDP tool in the main edit window, UDP commands must be unique.

No image on output:
- Ensure the content resolution is supported buy the BrightSign Model
- Check Codec of video file
- Create a simple non-interactive test project using content known to work on a Brightsign. If you see an image, you know that the BrightSign is set up correctly.
- Use ‘Handbrake’ to redo file.

Force Date on Brightsign
Manually setting time using a script
- Download the attached script.
- Open the SetDateAndTime.txt file in Notepad.
- Specify the time and time zone for the player on the first two lines of SetDateAndTime.txt
- The example is set for EST and sets the clock to April 19, 2014 at 3:07 PM
- Save the changes.
- If your screen does not support 1920x1080x60p resolution/rate, you will need to change the video mode in the autorun.brs script on line 6. This FAQ lists all supported resolutions.
- Copy the config files onto a blank SD card. The files must be copied to the root directory of SD card, not in a folder.
- Insert the SD card in the unit and power up the unit.
- Leave the unit powered up for at least the next 4 hours so that supercap that maintains the time can charge. It does not have to be running the script, you can use it normally, just keep it powered up.
